Why I Blend

While I do appreciate a fresh pressed juice every now and again, I’ve never really been big on juicing at home.

The machines were always a pain to clean, and there was always so much waste at the end of the day. Sure, I could save the pulp for stock and baking, and I still do whenever I have to juice something, but I was concerned about missing out on all the benefits of what juicing left behind – the fiber.

Fiber is important to our digestive and immune health. It helps slow down the rate of absorption of sugars into the bloodstream, and acts as a broom in the intestines, helping to “sweep” and push out the byproducts of what we’ve consumed throughout the day so that it can be removed from the body.

Blending whole fruits and vegetables also makes me feel like I’m eating a meal, instead of just drinking a liquid for hydration or as a snack. I’m consuming more vegetables throughout the day (5+ servings), and they help me manage my sugar cravings.

What’s even better about blending instead of juicing is that the blends last a few days longer than a juice does. So if I can’t get to a blend right away, I don’t have to worry about it fermenting or otherwise spoiling on me.

In 2004 I purchased my first Vitamix 5200. At the time, I wondered if I was crazy for making such a huge investment. I wasn’t sure if I was being chumped into buying another expensive kitchen gadget that would burn out in a year or end up on the counter museum of barely used kitchen appliances.

Today, I’ve never had a purchase I’ve been more proud of.

It’s outlasted all of my friends’ juicers and blenders and I take it everywhere I go.

I’ve had a lot of fun coming up with recipes and modifying popular juice recipes for whole food blending.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and check me out.

I can’t wait to hear your feedback.

Cheers to good health!

Melissa
