7 Best Looks from the Louis Vuitton Cruise 2019 Runway Show

Nicolas Ghesquière, the current Creative Director at the house of Louis Vuitton, doesn’t plan on leaving anytime soon, as he stated in his post last week with the hashtag “#notgoinganywhere” on Instagram. Over this past Memorial Day Weekend on May 28, the designer debuted his fifth Louis Vuitton Cruise Collection to the world.

The show took place at the Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul de Vence, with over 600 guests including Emma Stone, Ruth Negga, Sienna Miller, and many more. Lovers of Louis Vuitton were able to take part in the show from the comfort of their own homes via livestream. The annual Louis Vuitton Cruise has become a social media event that all fashion lovers look forward to in May.

Ghesquière channeled the 1980's in his collection, and played with different fabrics that do not traditionally go together. However, that wasn't the only surprise. Grace Coddington, the former Creative Director at Vogue, debuted her famous illustrations of her cats on the bags included in the collection.

Although it was difficult to pick only seven from the 59 looks, it should be noted that the collection was both iconic and cohesive. According to an interview Ghesquière had with the Times, he explained, "The collection, which was in part about testing the laws of gravity when it comes to clothing, but also about exploring the idea of what 'eccentricity' means when individuality is easy to copy."

Ghesquière showed us his individuality in this collection as a reminder that he may have been in this industry for a while, but he is still evolving and enjoying the craft. One can't help but speculate that his remarks about "not going anywhere" may have something to do with the notable streetwear designer, Virgil Abloh, who has taken over the men's wear collection at Louis Vuitton.

Individuality may be easy to copy, but both of these designers have made an impact in the Louis Vuitton house. And as observers, all we can do is look forward to what else they have in store.
