The 3rd Annual DreamWalk Fashion Show at The Gramercy
DreamWalk, the first body inclusive fashion show, hosted its third annual show in New York on September 15. Two sisters, Lexi and Alyse Scaffidi founded the show when their dreams of strutting down the runway were soon crushed by the impossible beauty standards held by the fashion industry.
The sisters started the DreamWalk fashion show as a platform to prove to the world that one size doesn’t fit all. The show features inspiring individuals known as “DREAMERS,” that have faced hardship in their lives, and have come out victorious, owning their beautiful skin. The 2019 show paid tribute to Mindy Scheier, a fashion designer who started the Runway Of Dreams Foundation (RODF), in order to help people like her son, Oliver, who suffers from Muscular Dystrophy. The RODF works towards creating a future of acceptance by making adaptable clothing for individuals with disabilities.
All the participating DREAMERS told their inspiring stories of overcoming “imperfect” body image, health complications, anxiety, and bullying; inspiring others to believe that they can achieve anything in life no matter what race, size, age, disability, and gender they are.
