5 Emerging Artists To See at Governors Ball 2019


The New York City festival is just around the corner. While the lineup has some great, big names, we’re highlighting some of the up and coming voices you don’t want to miss at Governor’s Ball.

(1) Njomza

NJOMZA, who’s name means “youth” in Albanian was born in Germany and raised in Chicago. NJOMZA is an R&B singer-songwriter, who’s 2017 collaboration with Party Favor and Fkj 1st landed on the Top 40 Dance Billboard chart. She’s released two EPs, “sad for you” in 2017 and “vacation” in 2018. Her R&B infused music is the perfect soundtrack to relax and unwind to, while being serenaded by her outstanding vocals. You can catch NJOMZA performing at the Dive Bar Sessions on the first day of Gov Ball, Friday, May 31.

(2) Soccer mommy

Sophie Allison, whose stage name is Soccer Mommy, is an indie rock singer-songwriter. Born in Switzerland, she grew up in Nashville and has been playing guitar since she was six. She’s toured with the likes of Mitski, Kacey Musgraves, and Phoebe Bridgers. Her sound melds dark guitar tones and her sweet voice to create unique, mellow songs to hum along to. Soccer Mommy will be performing at Gov Ball on day three, Sunday, June 2 where she’ll continue on her summer tour.

Jack Harlow is a rapper from Louisville, Kentucky. In his four years in the music industry, Harlow has released three full albums, an EP and multiple singles, and co-founded his own record label, Private Garden. He recently released a new single “Cheap, Cheap” at the end of April. Harlow’s songs incorporate melodic, stripped-down beats which create a chill vibe that still makes you want to dance. He’ll be performing on day three of Gov Ball on Sunday, June 2 and also continuing onto a summer tour.


Claire Cottrill, better known as Clairo, is an alternative dream-pop singer-songwriter hailing from Carlisle, Massachusetts. She has written dozens of successful singles, and released her highly anticipated EP “Diary 001” in 2018. Clairo’s music has a definitive 80’s synth pop influence with a modern twist found in her pleasantly soft voice. Clairo will be performing at Gov Ball on day one, Friday, May 31, and will continue on to open for Khalid at Madison Square Garden this summer.

(5) Dennis Lloyd

Nir Tibor, who goes by Dennis Lloyd, is a multi-talented singer-songwriter and instrumentalist. Born in Tel Aviv, he learned how to play multiple instruments at a young age, and spent the first few years of his musical career traveling to Asia and writing songs. His hit song, “Nevermind,” charted in the UK, the US, and in many parts of Europe. He is currently promoting his latest EP, “Exident,” which was released this past April. Llyod’s sound leans towards mainstream electro-pop but has definitive foreign influence with his vocals and rhythms. Dennis Lloyd will be performing at Gov Ball on day one, Friday, May 31, and continuing onto a summer tour.
